Over the summer, the alumni of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Delta Gamma Chapter of Penn State University hosted a life celebration and scholarship fundraiser in honor of Lorenda Fambro-Gordon. The AKA sorority sisters were joined by other alumni Penn State Greeks, including the sisters of Delta Sigma Theta, and the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, and Omega Phi Psi.
Mr. Richard Lee Snow, Executive Director/COO, Kappa Alpha Psi, a college classmate of Fambro-Gordon, served as Master of Ceremonies. Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes (husband of entertainer Sheryl Lee Ralph), a high school classmate of Fambro-Gordon was Guest of Honor.

Fambro-Gordon was an elementary school teacher in Maryland at the time of her accidental death in October 2007. She graduated from Penn State University with a B.A. in journalism/broadcasting and earned master’s degrees from City College of New York and Johns Hopkins University. Fambro-Gordon received the Sharon Christa McAuliffe Memorial Teacher’s Merit Award, was a National Urban Fellow, and active in several organizations including the Greater Washington Urban League.

The Lorenda Fambro Gordon Memorial Enrichment Scholarship will be awarded annually beginning this academic year. The scholarship is earmarked for full-time undergraduates of Penn State University enrolled in any academic major who have financial need and whose ethnic or cultural background contributes to the diversity of the student body.
The AKA sorority sisters presented Penn State a $2,500 check, representing the first of five annual donations that will be made to the fund.
Bravo Sorors!
