Who's That Girl - Cecile de Massey

While waging an epic battle of good versus evil with my digital camera, I later discovered that my batteries were low (*sigh*).

So, everyone I will have photos of my adventure to the Big Apple last week with Special Friend soon. We were invited to MoMA for a special Links, Inc. event hosted by Eastern Area Arts Chair Sandra Berger.

On to other topics - besides the economy, politics, blah, blah, blah - I discovered what I think is a little known Black History fact (to borrow the phrase from DJ Tom Joyner).

(Baroness) Cecile de Massey (photographed above) is married to Prince Rainier of Monaco's only nephew (Baron) Christian Louis. The de Massey and Baroness title was bestowed upon Christian's mother Princess Antoinette in 1951. The children later adopted the name and title.
Cecile was recently photographed at the Russian Vogue 10th Anniversary Party in Milan earlier this month and is apparently quite the social fixture on the Monaco Social Scene. I am tapping into some of my French connections (no pun intended) to see if I can uncover more information about her background to share with you.

I learned that she is president of the Monaco Branch of Ladies Who Lunch - an organization that raises money for a variety of philanthropic endeavours. However, pics of her are pretty rare.
I gotta tell you - that Grimaldi clan love themselves some Black folks (ebonically speaking).
Don't forget that Prince Albert has an adorable five year old Black son, Alexandre Eric Stéphane Coste. Also, many historians believe that Prince Rainier's mother, Princess Charlotte had African blood in her veins.
Bet you thought it was the Saint-Tropez sun made the Grimaldi's tans sooooo dark hmmm...
We'll chat soon!
Cheers!

Friday's Fabulous Flick

Our featured Socialite this week, Ayanna Jenkins-Toney is creating quite a stir on the San Francisco social scene. She is pictured here attending the San Francisco Symphony Gala a few weeks ago and looked absolutely smashing!

This flick was featured in several pubs online and in print in addition to being named one of the 'Best Dressed' by friend to this blog Sfluxe.com.

So, then came the inquiries this past week from folks asking 'who is she?'

Mrs. Jenkins-Toney is apparently an attorney in private practice and married Cornell Toney in 2000. The couple has one daughter, Madison Brooke Toney in 2006.

The Toneys are pretty well known on the San Francisco Social Scene but this latest pic has helped moved Ayanna to potential national Socialite status.
Have a super weekend!
Cheers!

Friday's Fabulous Flick

This week's flick features Super Socialite Maggie Betts attending the New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) hosted their ninth annual Fall Gala on September 16th at Cipriani 42nd Street. This major fundraising event raises money needed to help young people in foster care in New York City.

Does she look great?!

Kevin Lyles, EVP of Warner Music Group was among the many honorees of the evening. Ms. Patti LaBelle and Lupe Fiasco performed while attendees enjoyed cocktails and dinner. Lots of Hollywood/Entertainment types were there as well including: Beyonce and hubby Jay-Z; and Malinda Williams and brand new hubby D-Nice.

My weekend includes an AKA luncheon fashion show, a bridal shower, and the continuing saga of 'condo prepping' for the holidays and the end of the year (you know, cleaning, tossing junk, organizin etc.)

I know many of you out there are super stressed over our current financial climate in the United States.

HANG IN THERE!

As a people, we have always found a way to get by - even in tough times.
I promise to include some future posts about managing the Socialite lifestyle in tough economic times.
Have a great weekend!!

Make Your IGoogle Page FAABBUULOUSS

I received an email from Kate Spade’s website last week that the company has added textures to IGoogle so that you can customize your page with her designs for free. One of the many designs available is the green and white polka dot design pictured above.

Upon further investigation, I learned that scores of designers such as Gucci, Sergio Rossi, Burberry, Anna Sui, Betsey Johnson, Jimmy Choo, Vera Wang, Rock and Republic, Michael Kors, BCBGMaxAzira, Vivienne Tam, and others offer free IGoogle page designs too.
How fun is that??!!

I think this customization option is absolutely cute (and smart marketing on behalf of the designers and companies).
Have a good time adding some glam to your IGoogle page!
Cheers!

Quality News Coverage on AKA's Centennial

Hello good people,

I decided not to overwhelm you (or me) with scores of news story links regarding The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Centennial Celebration.

Instead, I am adding a link here to what I considered to be great coverage by the FOX-TV affiliate in Washington, DC (I know...I was...shall we say - surprised too given FOX's known political bias...)

In a very brief snippet, this FOX affiliate hit on several key points about the past and contemporary history of Alpha Kappa Alpha from the perspective of three generations.

I was moved enough to share it with you.

And, I congratulate them on a job well done.

Can My Favorite Royal Get Some Recognition?

OK, so I'm watching VH1's Fabulous Life of Real Life Cinderellas last night before switching over to the Republican National Convention coverage.

After the show was over, I sat in pause mode for a few minutes before asking this question.

How in the WORLD do you feature all of George Clooney's girlfriends and not HSH Princess Angela of Liechtenstein??!!

Here we go again...

If I could take my Joan & David sandal and hit someone at VH1 with it, I sure would! (Oh, is that considered a terroristic threat?)

OK, nevermind! Let's just say that I am really hot with them!!

Some of you remember I fussed about the lack of media coverage of my favorite royal in a posting last year.

Now in fairness to VH1, Princess Angela does keep a super low profile. A few of you emailed this recent above picture of her at the Five & Alive Benefit in The Hamptons but sightings are rare.

However, she and Prince Maximilian have been married for eight years now.
And the fact that this story is still largely uncovered in the media is bizarre.

Friday's Fabulous Flicks

Evidence, A Dance Company held its annual 'On Your Toes' Benefit in The Hamptons last month to much fanfare. Among the attendees were author Terry McMillan, Susan Taylor, and Judge Bernard H. Jackson. The event's Mistress of Ceremonies was Rene Syler, former host of CBS' Early Show.

Company Founder/Artistic Director/Choreographer Ronald K. Brown credits Susan Taylor for introducing him to The Hamptons as a means for successful fundraiser.

Apparently, it's working as attendees don't quip over shelling out $500 per ticket to attend. Author/Producer Crystal McCrary Anthony, Reginald Van Lee (Chair of Evidence and Partner at Booz Allen Hamilton) and guests
Nadja Bellen-White, VP/Dir of Marketing for Publicis Modem (second to the left) and friends
Dancers from Evidence wow the crowd

Thanks to Andrea for sharing this wonderful photos!
Good people have a super weekend!
Cheers!

Ah...Fall is Upon Us

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love the fall for a couple of reasons.

Around mid-July, my eyes and brain become exhausted from seeing parades of people donning inappropriate attire. It can just be so awful.

This is one of the reasons why, I love fall clothing much more than spring and summer wear. There is certain coziness to high quality wool, cotton, silk, and cashmere wearables. And, when worn properly, anyone can look stylish and chic.

I also enjoy fall foliage season too (although I heard this season may be a bit lackluster due to the climate shifting we’re experiencing in North America).

And of course chappies – the fall social season will be back in swing!

This summer was a bit blasé if I must say so myself. Many of you who are loyal readers of this blog, along with New York Social Diary and Park Avenue Peerage have taken notice as well.

Many of our favorite gals and guys were MIA this summer.

We all know that the economy has definitely taken a chunk out of most people designer handbags, so there was a great deal of scaling back on junkets, parties, and vacations this summer.

Hopefully, we’ll see more of our Super Socialites this fall and winter.

In the meantime, I’m organizing invites and my fall clothing.

And of course, we’ll chat again soon!

PS - Thanks to all of you who became my friend on Facebook! :-)
