One of the women I admire is Naomi Sims.
Her elegance, style, flair, and business sense sparked an attitude in many Black women that that we could “have it all” – beauty, business acumen, and intelligence.
I thank her for all that she endured and sacrificed to rise to such great professional heights (can you imagine told you’re too dark to work?).
And although cancer stripped away her life last week at the age of 61, her beautiful story of survival, struggle and triumph is one we should uphold as a shining example for future generations.
She rose from foster care while battling insecurities about her height and skin color to leave an indelible mark on the fashion industry and America.
She is a fashion pioneer and a legend.
She will be sorely missed.
