Desiree Rogers' "First Public Appearance" Since White House Departure

The Chicago Sun Times is reporting that former White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers, will make her "first public appearance" on April 29th as a guest speaker for the Chicago Advertising Federation Luncheon. The event will be held at The Palmer House Hilton and I understand that tickets are still available.

Some of the event’s proceeds will benefit Chicago's Off The Street Club - an organization founded in 1900 that assists youth who live on Chicago's West Side. The organization currently serves 3,000 children.

The topic - “Her role as Special Assistant to the President and White House Social Secretary.

Civil Rights Legend Dorothy Height Dies at Age 98

Good people, this has been an incredible period of the loss of legendary figures in our community.

Civil Rights Legend Dorothy Height
has passed at age 98. Many of you are aware of her numerous accomplishments including serving as Chair and President Emerita of The National Council of Negro Women and the 10th National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton's quote in The Washington Post reflects my feelings about Ms. Height. "Dorothy Height deserves credit for helping black women understand that you had to be feminist at the same time you were African . . . that you had to play more than one role in the empowerment of black people."

While his life is remembered as a long list of professional and personal accomplishments, Mr. Llewellyn was also known as a “lion” that was personally responsible for propelling many Black professionals (including yours truly).

Celebrating Romare Bearden's "The Block"

Fabulous FiancĂ© (Special Friend’s new moniker!) and I recently trekked up to The Big Apple for a reception in celebration of Romare Bearden’s “The Block” at the Metropolian Museum of Art.

The reception was coordinated by the Metro-Manhattan Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and the Central New Jersey Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. Donna Williams (the Met’s Chief Audience Development Officer – Multicultural Audience Development Initiative) was instrumental in coordinating the event. She is a member of the Central New Jersey Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

The place was jammed packed as people mixed and mingled throughout the evening.

Pictures won’t do justice to this incredible piece of work - you need to experience its’ richness and depth. This link provides more information on educational materials, events, and activities.
