Friday's Fabulous Flicks

On May 7th, The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater returned to Harlem’s world-famous Apollo Theater for a one-night-only event. Performances by the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, rising stars of Ailey II, gifted young dancers from The Ailey School, and talented students from AileyCamp Washington Heights and Newark were the smashing highlight. Ailey’s 2013 Spring Gala marked the first time all tiers of the organization have come together to perform on one stage.

The benefit, honoring Ailey Board of Trustees member Robert Kissane, raised a record breaking $1 million dollars for student scholarships to The Ailey School and the organization’s Arts In Education & Community Programs, including AileyCamp.  Artistic Director Robert Battle welcomed Honorary Chair Kimberly Chandler and over 900 guests, including Amsale Abrera, Bevy Smith, Emilio Sosa, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, Emily Blavatnik, Judith Jamison, Terry McMillan, Khephra Burns, and Henry McGee. Gala co-chairs were Lynne and Anthony M. Carvette, Leslie and Tom Maheras, David E. Monn, and Almaz and Marc Strachan; and vice chairs were Michele and Timothy Barakett, Judith Byrd, Eboni Marshall Turman and Rossie E. Turman III, and Yelberton R. Watkins.

Thanks to Emily and the Ailey PR Team for providing the photos and copy.

Have a great weekend all!

How To Handle "Haters"

" The downside of being successful at anything is that there will be human beings out there who will feel threatened, angry, hostile, jealous, and just plain nasty about your success..." Gwyn Gilliss

There seems to be an obsession with "haters" these days. Whether it's in music or fueled on social media, the hater discourse rages forward. But, I've found very few articles on strategies one can use to shield oneself from so called haters.

This piece is a quick, straightforward read. The key takeaway: be happy and continue to be wonderfully you. Good things will come you way.

I know this is true from experience. Every since I started this blog, I've been the subject of snarky commentary.

I stuck with it and have had the privilege of meeting so many positive people as a result. The so called "haters" are placed in the corner of my conscience -which is where they belong.

So good people don't get fixated on the people that dislike you. Focus on those who support and love you.

You have too much awesome living ahead of you to worry about "haters."

BET Heiress Paige Johnson is Married!

Congratulations to Paige Johnson and Dudley Payne III who recently married at the fabulous Ocean Club in the Bahamas.

The Washington Post is reporting that 200 guests traveled to the lush Caribbean locale for a four day celebration.

I know this story may be heartbreaking for some because Paige is so gosh darn cute (and rich). But she's officially off the market.

Friday's Fabulous Flick

This week’s flick features Greg Belinfanti, Brooklyn Museum Trustee Tamara Belinfanti, and artist Paul Outlaw attending the Brooklyn Museum's third annual Brooklyn Artists Ball fundraising gala.

The Belinfantis are a dynamic, young power couple (he’s a Managing Director at One Equity Partners, LLC and she is an Associate Professor at New York Law School). They are definitely ones to watch.

Have a great weekend good people!
