We WILL Finish The Race

I'm back in Boston now - starting my PhD program (yes I travel a lot).

On my way here, I was struck by this Boston Magazine cover.

The image consists of shoes from Boston Marathon runners. Even more striking is the simple but powerful phrase " We Will Finish The Race."

As Boston begins the repair work on its shattered emotional state, I think many of us can apply the concept of "race finishing" in various aspects of our lives.

And no matter how discouraged you may feel at times, remember that you will finish the race.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Emerging Young Leaders Summit in Philadelphia

The members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. recently held their North Atlantic Regional Conference in Philadelphia.I served as an (ahem) "Social Delegate" and enjoyed hanging with my Sorors tremendously.

All kidding and jokes aside, I also served as a workshop facilitator for the Emerging Youth Leaders Summit at the West Philadelphia YMCA. While it was a chilly day, the energy was infectious from both the children, the staff of the Y, and my Sorors who worked hard of developing a nice half day program. The workshops covered social media etiquette, dating violence prevention, conflict resolution, and bullying prevention.

(Left to right) Dr. Tricia Bent-Goodley, Constance Pizarro (AKA North Atlantic Regional Director), Terry Henry (Executive Director of the West Philadelphia YMCA), Carolyn House Stewart, Esq. (AKA International President), and AKA planning committee member present a new Wii to the YMCA for their youth activities.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.'s Emerging Youth Leaders program aims to positively impact the lives of 10,000 girls in grades six through eight through direct involvement and skill building with the children. The idea is to provide leadership skills and academic preparation.

Congratulations to Dr. Tricia Bent-Goodley (pictured below who is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. International Program Committee) for coordinating a great event!

Pressing The Pause Button

I'm in Chicago now - having left Philadelphia (and my Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorors in town for the recent North Atlantic Regional Conference). And just a few weeks ago, I was in Boston for The Eastern Area of The Links, Incorporated Conference.

So, today I watched the news in a transfixed state regarding the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombers. This situation was/is horrible on so many levels.

At.this writing, the second suspect has been captured (the first suspect was killed). Naturally, many of us are breathing a sigh of relief.

Therefore, I'm pressing pause on this week's fabulous flick. I feel.today is a time for reflection and prayer.

Be ever vigilant and watch over each other.

Have a super weekend!

Friday's Fabulous Flick

Publicolor honored Coty award winning fashion designer Jeffrey Banks (pictured here with Eleanor Banks) at the Annual Stir, Splatter +Roll Gala recently in New York City.

Publicolor focuses on “design-based programs and academic support engage at-risk youth in their education and combat the lack of job-preparedness that fuels poverty.”

Have a super weekend all!

PS - And...I am calling on my Eastern Area Sister Links to provide me photos from the recent Eastern Area Conference in Boston. Your girl was werking and couldn't catch a down moment to snap lots of photos.
